A man has been sentenced to 48 years in state prison for sexually assaulting two girls over the course of several years, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday.
Gerell Schmitt, 36, of Eatontown, was sentenced in June during a hearing before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Jill G. O’Malley, according to a news release. Earlier this year, a jury found him guilty of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree attempted aggravated sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault, and second- and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
